Also still working on that huge pile of magazines... * * * Site News: Well, I've had to expand the Essay Excerpts section to two pages. New excerpts will be posted here. Resources have been added to pages A, B, and C. Also posted are a few more site awards. Thank you to all the web designers who have taken the time to look at my site and make suggestions for improvement. I hope you check back often to see how your comments have improved this site. Another change is that I've joined several Web Rings. February 2006 I'm very excited to announce that my novella, "A Long Night with Five Mothers," has been accepted for publication in Lords of Swords 2 by editor Daniel E. Blackston of Pitch-Black Books. LOS2 will be the second installment in the critically acclaimed and highly popular anthology series. It is scheduled for release in Spring 2007. Thanks, Dan! In the meantime, you can read an excerpt here. * * * I was mentioned by Bruce Durham in a round table interview of small press fantasy authors moderated by Armand Rosamilia of Carnifex Press for his monthly column at EpicSFF. Thanks go out to webmaster Dave Felts for his help. * * * My book review of Garth Nix's Lirael has been published by Fantasy Book Spot and is available at www.FantasyBookSpot.com. * * * Unfortunately, I will not be able to work on the Robert E. Howard project mentioned in last month's column. No time! * * * On the Bookshelf: Trying to catch up on all the ridiculous number of magazines that I'm behind on, as well as taking a second glance at Pitch-Black Books' anthologies Lords of Swords and Sages and Swords (both edited by Daniel E. Blackston) and diving into The Book of Fritz Leiber by Fritz Leiber. Away from the world of speculative fiction are David Elliot Cohen's One Year Off, Mortification: Writers' Stories of Their Public Shame, edited by Robin Robertson, and The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverly Cleary (a book on which I based a puppet theater presentation in elementary school). * * * Site News: Of course, I'm adding more Resources this month. As always, I'm open for link exchange. There have also been many little upgrades that will hopefully improve visitors' experience. One major change is that I've added a page on www.SwordandSorcery.org's critique groups. I've creatively named the page "Critique Groups." Another major change is the addition of a monthly newsletter. You can find more information about the newsletter by visiting Administrative Stuff. The last major addition this month is the Web Rings page. This website has been added as a resource to About.com's sci-fi/fantasy page. Special thanks go out to all the additional award programs that have reviewed the site. Your comments and suggestions have made www.SCBryce.com better and better! You can see this site's awards at Site Awards. January 2006 My two essays on Michael Moorcock's character, Dorian Hawkmoon, have been accepted for publication by www.SwordandSorcery.org. The first (on The History of the Runestaff series) is scheduled to appear in February. Thanks go out to Ryan Harvey! In the meantime, you can read excerpts of them here. * * * I've received another invitation to submit, this time an non-fiction essay for an academic work on Conan's creator, Robert E. Howard. I don't know if my schedule is going to allow it yet... * * * "The Demon War," a Dermanassian short story, has been accepted by editor Sharon Partington for reprinting in the Spring edition of Worlds of Wonder. It is expected to be available in April. In the meantime, you can read an excerpt here. * * * My book review of Garth Nix's Sabriel has been published by Fantasy Book Spot and is available at www.FantasyBookSpot.com. * * * My book reviews of Michael Moorcock's The Vanishing Tower, The Weird of the White Wolf, and Stormbringer have been published at www.SFReader.com. * * * The www.SwordandSorcery's January critique group sessions are just about to start. This story will be published in installments in Flashing Swords, edited by Howard Andrew Jones. Thanks, Howard! You can read excerpts of those stories here. * * * Well, I spent much of the holidays finishing up short fiction projects, so I hope to have good news on them soon! * * * On the Bookshelf: This month, I am finishing Michael Moorcock's The Chronicles of Castle Brass (Count Brass, The Champion of Garathorm, and The Quest for Tanelorn). Also on the bookshelf are Garth Nix's Lirael and Abhorsen. * * * Site News: Boy, it's been a long year revamping the website. Please let me know what you think! In other site news... I've added tons of links to the Resources section. As always, if you see any dead links or have any suggested links, let me know. I've also added both a "Site Map" page and a page called "Administrative Stuff" that address my Privacy Policy, Copyrights and Credits, and other such things. Yet another addition: these sections in the "What's New?" pages on "Site News" and "On the Bookshelf." My website has won several site awards, resulting in a new page (Site Awards). Thanks for your assistance and support! |
